THE GEAR

A rundown of the gear we use.

News: Welcome

CAMPING

SWAG

Nick has been using the ARB skydome for over 4 years and absolutly raves about it. He has had to replace poles once or twice (once due to heavy snow fall) but sill recommends it for size, comfort, quality and all weather use.

Mark uses the Darche Dirty Dee, due to its larger size, increased head room and thicker mattress. One down side is the bent poles tend to create a weak point and can be a nuisance to pack away as they don't fold compact like most.

AWNING

The awning on the Patrol is the Rapid Wing 6 by Supapeg. Featuring rear coverage and extending further to the front to give a huge protected space.

CHAIR

The Front Runner Expander chair has been used and abused for many years, somehow, it still folds up and packs away as small as any on the market. A true space saver with minimal sacrificing on comfort.

TABLE

Again, when it comes to space saving, a table can be the tipping point between happy camping and no camping. This stainless steel table from Front Runner is narrow enough to slide below your roof rack!

COOKING

The Coleman even temp stove has been in the back of both wagons for many trips and has never once failed us, its seen wind, rain and snow!

STORAGE BOXES

A square box is usually the best place to start, so after years of going through Bunnings boxes of all sizes we found the Wolf Pack. Square sides, secure lid and stackable. We now own about a dozen and haven't found anything that can match the price and usabillity.

STORAGE CASES

Keeping everything in its spot can be a challenge when offroading, with steep angles and hard knocks, gear can end up anywhere. These Blacksmith Camping clear top canvas bags of various sizes will keep everything in its spot and within quick reach when needed. Hand made right here in South Australia!

WASTE / DIRTY GEAR

A rubbish bin is needed on every trip, if not for your own waste, probably for someone else's. The Blacksmith Camping wheel bag is large enough for rubbish collection, dirty or wet recovery gear, firewood storage or anything else you may not want to store in your vehicle.

RECOVERY BOARDS

We've used these in all conditions; sand, mud, snow and rocks, and bang for buck there isn't a better recovery device out there. Buy these before going away to the beach and before buying any other recovery equipment.

WINCH

Smittybilt don't have a large following in Aus, but that doesn't mean their not capable of a decent winch! Having used the X20 series of winches for 5+ years without major failure (or even a service) is proof they can handle just about anything you can throw at them!
